What Is MK-677?
MK-677, also known as ibutamoren, is an orally active, non-peptide growth hormone secretagogue originally developed by Merck. MK-677 mimics ghrelin, binding to the ghrelin receptor to stimulate the pituitary gland's release of growth hormone (GH). This leads to sustained increases in GH and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). MK-677 is not a steroid and does not affect testosterone levels.
Research Use of MK-677
MK-677 has been studied in clinical trials for growth hormone deficiency in children and adults, age-related muscle and bone loss, and recovery from hip fracture in older adults. It remains investigational and is not approved as a medicine.
What Is MK-677 Used For?
Outside clinical research, MK-677 is used in bodybuilding and fitness for increased muscle mass, improved recovery, and deeper sleep. It is banned under the WADA Prohibited List.
